Absolutely correct! And pay no attention to the moronic responses below - these people do not understand the purpose of the census!

Asking a citizenship question on the 2020 census would exact a full and accurate count of the U.S. population since only American Citizens would be fairly represented in Congress.

The US Constitution says that the Census shall count the "whole number of persons" in the USA, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Stop trying to defend blatant violations of the Constitution you claim to value. And no human is illegal.

Don't they use the information for U.S. Representatives? How can you NOT ask a citizenship question?

We’ve always used raw population and not # of citizens to calculate representation, since the 1st census. (Though some residents got counted as less than whole people.) Indians have always been counted; but they’ve all been citizens since 1924.

I had a Census taker here a few months ago and one follow up call. I was asked for the nationality of each household member.

Done, but not how you asked. I am all for the question. We need an accurate census, not a political tool.
