I have heard that the border wall would actually result in a savings due to lack of services paid out to, and expended upon illegal entrants. Is this not correct?

Really? Because I heard it will cost, in estimates, $70b to build alone and $150m to maintain. And the actual price is usually far exceeds the estimates.
