So if I get a very expensive place that I know I can’t afford, the Feds will help me? I like your other ideas but this is the first that I have to disagree with. There must be a better way. How about helping communities that build affordable housing?

How the
#RentReliefAct works: renters who spend more than 30% of their income on rent would be eligible for a federal tax credit. This means more money in your bank account and more money invested back into the economy. - 10 more replies

Hilarious, Senator. How much of those "rent increases" were the direct result of governmental policy in the first place? See California.

Who's money are we putting in these renters pockets?

In many cities, it is the government's fault that rents are high. You want a government solution to a government problem. This will lead to new problems and of course, you will suggest more government solutions. We have way too much government as it is.

Isn't it absurd that people in your state can't afford to live anywhere but the streets?
-
Government can’t solve every problem. 21M people is 7% of the entire US population. Most probably live in NY or CA. Can’t afford the area - move. Many of the CA tax base are fleeing droves.

Ex: A makes $40K Finds place @ $900 a month=27% of income; a better place @ $1050= 31.5%. A takes more expensive place to get subsidy B makes $35K finds place for $800 a month but can rent the same place A passed on for $950 & get the subsidy-landlord saw B coming raised the rent

Prescisely. Then progressives enact rent controls capping rents. Landlords reduce upkeep and properties become stressed.
