@SenKamalaHarris The reason for BALLOONING college costs is because the govt is loaning money to kids they know can't pay it back. In the absence of a free market, where colleges would have to compete on value, the colleges simply charge the highest amount a student can borrow.

And this system preys on 17 & 18 year olds who have no FN concept of money. They have no idea what $250k in loans really means BC they all think they will be hedge funders or pro athletes or anything other than making $35k the day after graduation, if they can find a job.

I agree. Close down the student loan programs. No debt. (Guessing that’s not what you had in mind)!

People can restructure or have partial forgiveness from virtually any kind of debt these days except student loans. That's just ridiculous. The idea is to better the process of getting people educated, not to stop educating.

I’ve been teaching in the public school system for almost 20 years. I still owe over $50K for my undergrad and masters degree. That is unconscionable.

So sorry to hear that!

In what world would this be? Wake up and realize no one values what is free. Arrange for low interest loans with delayed paybacks but thinking college is a given rather than a privilege only cheapens the experience. Put my tax dollars into K-12.

College shouldn't just be a privilege, and there are many, many people across the world who value their educations very highly. They know it isn't *actually* free, and everyone in a society benefits from a strong education system.
