It’s been four days since Trump upped his estimate of COVID-19 deaths from 60,000 to 70,000. We just hit 65,000. 9,000 people have died just since he admitted 10,000 more might die.

There’s no other view to have here. Numbers are numbers, and terrible estimates are terrible estimates.

I don’t know how you stand there with 56,000 deaths under your belt, and with deaths being reported at the rate of nearly 2,500 per day, and change your estimate of deaths from 60,000 to 70,000. That’s just fucking dumb.

I'm old enough to remember when it was said that they over estimated 150,000 deaths just so they could claim a victory

Grasping the geometric progression is hard even though we've all read about the "double my allowance every day but start with 1 cent" by sixth grade.

I think he's basing this off of the model from the IMHE which has routinely been too low for the last 3+ weeks (currently predicts 72K). The CDC even removed it from their forecasts page today, but didn't say why.https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/forecasting-us.html …
