1. This is not an ‘outbreak’. Lassa is endemic and we have experienced an ‘uptick in cases’.

2. The ‘outbreak’ is not out of control - again, Lassa is endemic (like e.g. malaria). Yes, we don’t have good control measures, however, ‘out of control’ would imply unrestricted (human-to-human) transmission. That’s not what is going on here

3. People don’t die from ‘bleeding out of every orifice’ - same for Ebola. Yes, the disease is severe, but most people die without overt bleeding.

4. A typical story will say that in most cases the disease is mild with an overall fatality rate of about 1%. We have absolutely no idea if this is true - and most likely it is not.
