Obviously, but they didn’t give us any of the $3B so they can’t use it.
At least the $3 billion will make ICTV happy so they can keep putting their little viruses into little boxes.

They have to finish doing Eddie’s and his collaborators’ first. I imagine he has a whole lot more on the way.

What they should do is align the sequences, build a tree and then us an AI to give a virusy sounding name to every node in the tree.

FYI none of us is paid on the ICTV. I play role in it on top of all my academic admin of teaching, research, outreach etc.

…this is largely moot as the rate at which new viruses are discovered is accelerating to the point where taxonomy wont be possible.
