Many virologists I know have serious doubts about the serology for Ebola viruses in general populations. Most report about 5%. Implausible.

Yes, EBOV seroprevalence as high as 10% in one year in Sierra Leone according to: https://virologyj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12985-016-0621-4 … - impossible to imagine being real

Exactly. Suggests 10% of population had an infection with >50% fatality rate. Evidence that mild illness is rare. Likely cross-reactivity.

Agreed. We see 5-10% too. No way that's 'real' Ebola. Wrote a whole grant to really dig into this (comparing pre outbreak / post). Unfunded.

This is an interesting table of studies: http://datadryad.org/bitstream/handle/10255/dryad.137644/Scidata%20EV%20Asymp%20Full%20Findings%20Table%20061216.pdf?sequence=1 … Apparently 16% of blood donors in Belarus are seropositive for EBOV.

Hah, not surprised. One day the world will learn that serosurveys are inaccurate and can't be used to make sweeping conclusions.
