My fear with regards to all the “asymptomatic” cases in mass testing situations is that the PCR is detecting sampling contamination rather than true infection. You know, the reason why the CDC’s original test kits didn’t work—environmental contamination of the negative control.
Was the contamination in the sampling or detection kit? There would be negative controls in the kit
preventable deaths until a vaccine/drug is ready you mean? because everybody is starting to figure out that without a vaccine, this pandemic is bound to turn into an endemic, which means total number of deaths at the end of the pandemic stage would be the same, anyway.
100% untrue. people in Brazil are dying today that would be saved but the hospital systems are collapsed. People in new york were sent home to keep hospital occupancy manageable. they died at home.
And a quick calculation shows a case mortality rate or ~8% in recognized cases. Which of course is tainted by rationing of tests and the resulting biases, but quite chilling nonetheless. And that was without all the hospitals becoming hopelessly overwhelmed.
