An underestimation maybe. Heard Osterholm on NPR the other day and his piece was brutal. Paraphrasing: "This is already like the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic. But with a 3% CFR, the likely scenario is more akin to the 1918 Spanish flu." Maybe eventually, but not even close yet!

My neck hair raise already when I hear this name. He always comes out and gives many interviews during outbreaks and his claims are on quite a number of occasions rather outlandish, sensationalist and fearmongering to raise his profile.

I actually can't argue with this comparison. Although, he is actually the head of Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), which could be sooo much more without such a negative impact

exactly. While you can kinda brush one aside, the other one has the credentials on paper, leads a major center on infectious disease research. This is the troubling part. I hope some people there start suggesting leadership change and/or retirement because it surely isnt helping

I see a common theme developing..... why do all actual infectious disease researchers (i.e. virologists etc) think he's so terrible in what/how he does things. Yet, he is apparently a staple in US health policy?!?
