I'm not saying that we shouldn't point out flawed studies and encourage open debate. But there are ways of doing that in more constructive and respectful ways that don't make mockery of the people involved and create a bad scientific environment.

You can object to the tone, and I probably shouldn't let my exasperation get the better of me. Really I feel bad for any students involved - they've been let down. And more students will be let down if such practices persist...

And the literature will continue to get polluted with spurious findings and people will think there must be fire where there's so much smoke, but really it's just people setting off smoke-bombs...
