Listened to music last night on the stereo. Tried again just now -- nothing! Is it my laptop that won't stream, is it Spotify, the amp or Airplay?!?

I know -- it's just Sonos have had their fair cases of security and privacy breaches. Seem to be a constant trade-off between privacy and usability...

Not necessarily a trade-off between privacy and usability, but *definitely* a trade-off between privacy and convenience. The backend of Sonos is ancient, so I can totally believe they have had breaches. I have just stopped caring - assuming everything I do is public already
