in one hand and one of my earplugs
in the other.

Oh, I bet you would never do that ;) but in such a case you could still try to use the candy instead of the earplug... I'm sure a gummy bear can do the job... Or marshmallows!
Marshmallows as earplugs... hmmmn, that’s kinda genius! Only works for size XXXXXXXXXXXXXXL ears, but all good.
