I understand the desire for scientific precision, I'm a virologist! But this constant reshuffling of filovirus nomenclature and terminology is a disaster and impossible for anyone not on an ICTV study section to keep straight. It really complicates communication with the public.
New naming schemes for diseases caused by filoviruses - including #Ebola and others. "Ebola disease" now covers all ebolaviruses (e.g., Zaire, Sudan), whereas "Ebola virus disease" only refers to those caused by Ebola virus (i.e., Zaire ebolavirus). It’s really a nightmare (and I say that being a good acquaintance of one of the primary authors). I agreed with the general reshuffling consequence initially but this is becoming quite confusing. I am particularly concerned for the regions where ebolaviruses are found...
