Here's the press release from
@EcoHealthNYC - well crafted and measured. I agree with them that discovering EBOV in a bat in West Africa is interesting - only, I could do without the hype (which isn't too bad in this release!). https://www.ecohealthalliance.org/2019/01/ecohealth-alliance-scientists-discover-the-deadly-zaire-ebola-virus-in-west-african-bat …Deze collectie tonenBedankt, Twitter gebruikt dit om je tijdlijn te verbeteren. PCR fragments with the right sequence, nothing less, nothing more. No full genome, no virus isolation from bat sample. So the ultimate proof of natural reservoir host in any bat species still not completed.
-
Correct - none of this proves that bats are the reservoir. It does, however, lend credence to that hypothesis - which, given what we know about other fillos, is a reasonable hypothesis in the first place. Are bats the reservoir? Maybe, maybe not - but best hypothesis for now IMO
