Agree for Acute Flaccid Myelitis not for #polio like. I am getting calls from media people- what's going on polio in #DRC #PNG Polio like in USA. For people #VDPVs #Poliolike #wildpolio all same. Biggest threat to #polioeradication is #misinformation which spreads like wildfire
I disagree - AFM means nothing to most people - it's an abbreviation. "Polio-like" - while far from optimal - tells you that this is a very serious disease. Suspect we’re stuck with it. When there’s a syndrome without a singular, definitive cause, physicians name based on signs and findings. Acute flaccid myelitis kind of does that. See also acute flaccid paralysis even in early descriptions of WNV disease.
