Certainly reasonable to say that bats carry this ebolavirus given it was found in bats but doesn’t seem to have much to say about Reston virus in Philippines or indeed Zaire Ebola virus.
I think finding one species of ebolavirus in bats lends credence to the overall hypothesis that they can be found in bats (indeed, that seems to be true for filoviruses more broadly). But I agree that we are very far from conclusive evidence.

I guess my brain is wired to think transmission and I know some people will think this incriminated bats as the human pathogen reservoirs and I don’t think that’s a jump to make. That’s what I got out of the comment I’m referencing but it could be I was reading too much into it.

Agreed. Definitely doesn't suggest that bats are the reservoir - that's a stretch. However, IMO it does lend credence to that hypothesis ("is consistent with") - but it's far from a proof (we'd need to see actual Ebola virus being consistently isolated out of a bat for that).
