I guess my brain is wired to think transmission and I know some people will think this incriminated bats as the human pathogen reservoirs and I don’t think that’s a jump to make. That’s what I got out of the comment I’m referencing but it could be I was reading too much into it.

Agreed. Definitely doesn't suggest that bats are the reservoir - that's a stretch. However, IMO it does lend credence to that hypothesis ("is consistent with") - but it's far from a proof (we'd need to see actual Ebola virus being consistently isolated out of a bat for that).
