This has to be one of *the* most irresponsible press releases I have ever seen. Let me elaborate...https://twitter.com/EcoHealthNYC/status/1022567864656699392 …

@HelenBranswell has reported it out nicely. https://www.statnews.com/2018/07/27/ebola-virus-discovery/ …1 antwoord 1 retweet 2 vind-ik-leuks -

Yup, v. nice article. The information sheet from the SL MoHS also contains useful information. That said, none of this helps the fact that this information is being put out with absolutely no data, publications, or preprint - it’s a hyped PR stunt from the investigators.

I completely agree the PR should have been rolled out simultaneously with the paper. Just glad Helen at least was able to dig out a lot more information.

Would anyone care to comment on this Columbia press release quoting
@DrSimonAnthony? (suffers from the same no data/paper problem)https://www.mailman.columbia.edu/public-health-now/news/scientists-discover-new-ebolavirus-bats-sierra-leone …2 antwoorden 0 retweets 0 vind-ik-leuks
Certainly better (@ucdavis had the same), however, without any data, preprint, or publication to support these claims one is left wondering. Not the way to communicate science.
