Doing comparisons between
and
academia, I found this part interesting.
Salaries in DK:
PhD student: $66k
Postdoc: $83k
Asst Prof: $86k
Assc Prof: $106k
Full Prof: $138k
In the US?
Student/postdoc: not enough
Prof: $35k - $700k

35-700k?!! Are the higher salary positions administrators? Are the lower salaries positions adjunct? Denmark data is super interesting! Had no idea!

I have seen multiple professors with salaries 700k+ on form 990s, state schools w. mandatory reporting (e.g. UMass), etc. Not admins - just highly successful profs. 35k, yes - adjunct (low end). Danish data is interesting indeed - the most striking part being the small deltas.

Sure. I think salaries in that range are incredibly rare for non-administrators though. Even rarer for people who don't have a professional qualification as well (e.g. clinician or lawyer).

I've seen non-admin, non-clinicians making even more than $700K but I doubt it is within the 95% confidence interval for a prof salary.

And I know that's not what Kristian meant. And I know that the chances of someone outside the U.S. making that amount is vanishingly small.

Agreed. My main points were that (a) students/postdocs actually make a living wage in DK (pensions also included), (b) this is pretty special to DK tho - e.g. US postdocs make more than UK postdocs, but it's still too little, (c) the delta between student/prof is small in DK.
