Whenever this happens to my wife I always tell her "look at it this way...at least you are lucky enough to have a husband who is perfectly willing and able to solo to the kids when you have a business trip".

The fact that this makes her “lucky” instead of it being the bare minimum expectation that you would parent when she is traveling reinforces Karen’s point. I’m sure when roles are reversed people don’t tell you that you’re lucky she cares for her kids.

I usually say something like "they're at home by themselves. They'll be entertained though because I left the matches and knives on the floor so they have easy access."

I just deadpan say “their dad.” It’s the definition of this face
