I literally think about nothing all day long. It takes immense energy for me to stay focused on a topic for very long. It took my husband years to believe me. His mind is always going!

Is that the same as not having a monologue?

I don't normally have one anymore. I remember thinking once that I couldn't conceive of thinking without words, but since then my thinking has changed and normally my thinking is wordless.

TIL that some people have actual, cohesive internal monologues. I emphatically do not, though I suppose I wish I did. My thoughts (I think) are like a bunch of connected nodes with branching actions/reactions/emotions/conclusions. Very non-linear.

This explains why I feel like it's very hard to verbalize what I'm thinking—unless I'm hyper-focused (like in a marital argument where I'm convinced I'm right) or articulating in real-time with very little expectation on the outcome (like in our podcast).

"What?" I asked myself. "How can someone not have an internal monologue?"
