I'm back with a new feature! This one looks at a type of insect that burrows into pinyon pines, killing them in the process. The tiny critters are called ips beetles, and they're spreading in Southwest Colorado because of drought conditions. 🪲🪲🪲

Did a flyover this week of the White Mesa Mill, the only working uranium mill in the US. It’s also very near the border of Bears Ears National Monument. A new report from says the mill is contaminating the surrounding air and water. #conservation #uranium

Checked out a prescribed burn yesterday north of Dolores. Prescribed burns are used to manage fire risk or, in this case, mitigate an ips beetle infestation, which burrow into and kill pinyon pines. Here’s one of the piles right after the crew ignited it. #fire #conservation
