I feel really bad for the folks who started on here with nothing and built up huge followings over years a years of hard work, only to see it dashed apart by some damn clown with a lot of money and hugely inflated sense of self. I see you.

Hey folks, it is #VeteransDay2022. As a Veteran, I would prefer people stop thanking me for my service and start voting for politicians who would help increase funding for the VA or donate some money to a good veterans organization. That's a real thank you to us.

Hello everyone, I lied the other day about not having it in me to start on a new social media platform... but, I am having difficulty staying active on here with that clown running this site. Here I am on Mastodon: ecoevo.social/web/@KRBurgio - follow me and I will follow you back!

Being an editor at has shown me that being a journal editor is one of my biggest contributions to science, aside from my own research. So, I also accepted a position on the Editorial Board so now I can do Moar editing (unpaid, of course)!

Never apologize for your slides during a presentation - if you know there's a problem, fix it ahead of time, or don't draw attention to the problem.

Conservationists: "We want new ideas!" Also Conservationists: "This is the way we have always done it so that is the way we will continue to do it regardless if it works or not."

We have until Friday noon (ET) to raise $20,550 or this doesn’t happen. If it’s funded, it’s going to be ad-free, fact-checked, and with multiple options for accessibility. And you’ll know we’re paying our production team fairly for their effort. We can’t do this without you.

I'm doing a major literature review of thousands of papers; I'm pleased that most of you are adhering to my science writing rule - AAAAAA (Almost Always Avoid Alliteration And Acronyms) But, here's a new lesson for writing titles - PPPPPP (Please Protect People Phrom Pithy Puns)

My first grad student advisee just passed her defense! She's not on Twitter so I can't tag her, and I know it's not about me, but damn, it was so cool advising someone from start to finish!

All I hear about in Zoom meetings now is how great it's going to be when things go back to in-person. It's almost as if everyone forgets how much they used to complain about regular meetings and that gas is 8 gazillion dollars a gallon now.

I don't know much about butterflies and moths, but I am really struck by how many of them are named after people. I am guessing some of them are probably problematic... Is there a Lepidoptera Names for Lepidopteras movement?

Note to hiring managers: if you expect someone to work 60-70 hours a week, maybe tell them that when they are interviewing? If you are hiding it because you are afraid it will scare them off, perhaps consider why that is and why you expect them to work that much.

My daughter's school has been in person since Fall 2020. Up until a week ago, there were no reported COVID exposures in her class. However, since our governor dropped the mask mandate for schools 2 weeks ago, my daughter has already been exposed twice. JFC.

Never thought I would be 5 years post PhD, still looking for jobs and applying for ones I'm way over-qualified for just to "get my foot in the door." It gets harder and harder to keep telling myself that it's not me, it's the job market and/or the geographic limitations.
