    Dangerous logic. Working class (read marginalised groups) more likely to commit crime. Is it them or the marginalisation? Can't have it both ways. So do we develop our communities (abolition) or ghost problems away and do nothing (neoliberalism)?

    Thank you James! I do get a bit exercised at the glib dismissal of the needs of (normally working class) communities to have a break from people who often cause havoc and destroy morale. Abolition is often advanced by people who perhaps, ahem, have no experience of this reality!

    No it's not back to front. It is the right way around for the Tories. Certain bodies are only sites of punishment never of redemption bc redemption is only reserved for fully paid up human beings and we still have certain bodies that are still not seen as inherently human.

    You learn this post-law school, but if you're adversarial af, zero in minor details and ambiguities, and make technically valid arguments you know are a stretch a lot, you're probably not a good lawyer. Don't do it in practice, and it's easier not to do it to a partner

    Do married lawyers actively turn off their lawyer brain when arguing with their partners? Bc the way we’re trained to be adversarial af, zero in on minor details/ambiguities, make technically valid arguments we know are a stretch, etc. - sounds like a nightmare

    Article 7 ECHR concerns with this proposal?

    Buckland says Govt will introduce emergency legislation to end terrorist prisoners being released automatically without any check or review by Parole Board. He says the legislative changes will be retrospectively fitted to serving prisoners.

    There's this notion that police are killing people because "they dont know the community." When has knowledge, familiarity, or relationships ever stop institutions from being violent? The church? Slavery? Prisons? School cops?

    Of course they have. Because ISIS love to claim responsibility for things, regardless of the strength of the connection. And we love to allow them to claim credit for it, regardless of whether this potentially causes more harm...

    Isis has claimed responsibility for the Streatham terror attack Its statement is generically worded and contains no new details, so could be based on press reports of Sudesh Amman's support rather than any communication

    To die for the cause, I think you wear a REAL bomb belt and go into the middle of a large crowd at a suitable target building/meeting. To get the police to shoot you you wear a fake belt and maybe stab a couple of people. What was done about this man's mental health in prison?
