Well it kind of makes sense. 8% of 25 in a math equation is 8/100 * 25/1, and 25% of 8 is 25/100 * 8/1. So the denominator is always 100, and because a*b is the same as b*a, you get the numerators reversed. But no, I didn't know. Can kick myself.

I’m a statistician and I didn’t know that! Of course it now makes sense to me because: 15% of 40 = .15 x 40 = (15/100) x (40/1) = (15 x 40) / (100 x 1) = (15/1) x (40/100) = 15 x .40 = 40% of 15

Now, here’s a fun one: 11 x 11 = 121 111 x 111 = 12321 1111 x 1111 = 1234321 11111 x 11111 = 123454321 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321 1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321 11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

Math teachers are sadists. They hold onto this information just to watch us squirm and cry. I bet they get together and discuss all sorts of helpful hints, and just laugh and laugh.

Gonna have to grill my Aunt (the retired math dept head). I'll have to do it in person so that I can watch for tells.
