"If you are an avid Twitter user, beware: tweeting is one of the most emotionally arousing activities you likely engage in on most days". This warning from @affectivebrain's Tali Sharot in her book The Influential Mind really hit home. Read on:pic.twitter.com/EBj8STW8CQ

She continues: "You may think of your emotions as private .. but your feelings leak out and are absorbed by others near and far. The consequences can be significant. Not only are you affecting others' well-being, you are affecting their actions, because mood affects behaviour."

I can believe this. I’ve become very careful about who I follow. If someone is constantly negative, then they’re out. I also avoid reading comments if they are likely to be negative or angry. I mostly follow scientists and musicians—from climate to math to opera to piping plovers

I do reply to Tweets, but if someone pops up who is aggressively angry, I do not tweet back. But, I can’t unread their Tweet. And I have it easy, no one knows me, so I’m not getting angry tweets (or death threats) directed my way.

I must be the odd one. I’ve always found exercise to be far more arousing than reading a Twitter feed.

Maybe that means I’m not avid enough. 🤷
