#AustralianWildFires climate denial claims, "it's arson! it's been warmer before! fire's natural!" The truth? Human-induced climate change is a threat multiplier. It takes existing risks + amplifies them beyond imagining, affecting every living thing on this planet: including us.

And the multiplier of climate change is human overpopulation.

Not quite, Steve. Please update your understanding with this fact: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/dec/02/worlds-richest-10-produce-half-of-global-carbon-emissions-says-oxfam … And solutions #6 and 7 on this list:https://www.drawdown.org/solutions-summary-by-rank …

I thought I saw you sitting with @LeoDiCaprio at the Golden Globes. Anyway, back to the truth! Yes I agree cc is a threat multiplier! What about climate denialism? What threat does that pose?

haha nope not me! The biggest threats in my opinion are (a) the fact that the balance of power and wealth in the world is controlled by the fossil fuel industry and (b) our own fear may doom us. What's the historic fire frequency? I've seen comments about fire adapted plants but no talk about fire suppression. Human suppression of the fire regime is probably a more direct cause than climate change. Extreme heat and drought only make the high fuel load more dangerous.

Just how much compared to actual trends is this worse because of us though? Are we talking an extra 1-2 degrees? Or are we taking a prolonged period of 5-10?

Dave, the planet should currently be cooling due to natural causes; instead, it's warming. Please start with the data and resources in this thread. Happy to answer more q's after you've reviewed them.https://twitter.com/KHayhoe/status/1032652591841386497 …

When we see climate changing, we don't automatically jump on the human bandwagon, case closed. No, we rigorously examine and test all other reasons why climate could be changing: the sun, volcanoes, natural cycles, even something we don't know yet: could they be responsible? ..
