Hi, I’m a climate scientist. You may know me from my greatest hits including, “No, it’s not a natural cycle,” “Yes, I know it’s been warmer before (and the only reason YOU know is because we scientists told you so),” and “Just because it’s on YouTube doesn’t mean it’s true.” https://twitter.com/dougpriestphd/status/1086610448772931584 …

Hi kh, what is a reasonably unbiased book on climate change? Looked on Amazon and they all seem either totally pro or totally against. Thanks.

Well, science is science. It’s not biased. Those who reject it are, however. That said, if you’re looking for info on frequent arguments against the science, this is the best source: https://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php?f=taxonomy … and there is also this really impressive MOOChttps://m.youtube.com/channel/UCmxzubbVw6jXA7Ak08StYug …

Hi, I’m a retired engineer. As an engineer I know that science runs on interpreting raw data and not consensus. The true hallmark of science is skepticism, question everything.

Hi, I'm a person who reads. Here in your tweet, I'm reading generalized sarcasm that is an oversimplification of a complex issue, resulting in my tendency to disregard the important work I would suppose that you do, as a scientist.

Perhaps you are unaware that every single day I have people with no understanding or expertise of my area telling me that I haven’t considered natural cycles or don’t know it’s been warmer before. Id appreciate if you’d reconsider your response in light of this.

My professor this semester for Weather and Climate class said on the first day its “a natural cycle” and that the earth is going to cool. How do I respectfully demonstrate disagreement and concern for his ability to teach the subject? Should I debate with him or go to the dept??

ooh! First, I would do so privately, not publicly. Second, I would begin the conversation with something positive - express appreciation for something you genuinely like or value about him and/or the class. Then third, I'd say that because you value the class so much, ...

While I appreciate that, I can’t miss the opportunity to share my two fav threads of all time, the one on statues by @libshipwreck -> https://twitter.com/libshipwreck/status/898214705403236355?lang=en … and @floschechter’s on cryptogamist Geoff Tandy -> https://twitter.com/i/moments/983458277185945602?lang=en …

As a historian the hardest part of my job is that I am constantly building statues, as statues are the only way people learn about history.
