Since writing this, I've heard from readers who reported the far right's co-option of the Yellow Vest protests in their own countries: white supremacists using the protests in Sweden, anti-vaxxers using the protests in Ireland, ect. Here's another example:

Pegida is an anti-Muslim hate group in Europe, off most Americans' radar. This Pegida video and others have been spreading like wildfire thru U.S. conspiracy groups on Facebook. They're using the Yellow Vests' favorable public image to dose readers with serious racist propaganda.pic.twitter.com/3jlH6hIooI

We're seeing an international far-right protest movement coalescing around conspiracies theories. With theories like QAnon, neither their details (cannibalism) nor their origins (U.S.) matter. See Jules' tweet/my story this week: https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-fringe-groups-are-using-qanon-to-amplify-their-wild-messages …https://twitter.com/jules_su/status/1099323207268524033 …

The constant reaction i get to this is "ah, duh, how can anyone believe this stuff?" The theories' details are almost completely unimportant! The specifics will shift over time, anyway. What you need to watch is what the theories are fueling.
