A large portion of the American population think it is the height of patriotism to act like selfish children. Such people live stunted adulthoods as they repeat the mantra, "Nobody tells me what to do," no matter how reasonable the request. A society of kiddie contrarians.

Precisely. Unlike other countries who displayed a more benevolent regard in helping to keep their fellow countrymen safe, Americans once again prove that the ugly American "it's all about me, too bad for you" stereotype is, sadly, quite real.
