Fraction of all US wealth owned by Boomers & Gen-Xers when the average member of each was age 35: Boomers, 1989 21% GenX, 2008 8% The average Millennial turns 35 in 2023. Right now they own 3%. There will surely be political implications. https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/z1/dataviz/dfa/distribute/table/#quarter:119;series:Net%20worth;demographic:generation;population:all;units:shares …

That difference is the result of very conscious political decisions. I wrote this nearly ten years ago, and it's much worse now.https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a13226/young-people-in-the-recession-0412/ …

Your own story--the link here--says "Only 58 percent of Boomers have more than $25,000 put aside for retirement, so the rest will either starve or the government will have to pay for them." In other words, more than half of the #Boomer generation is essentially poor.

Boomers wrote great protest songs and camped out at Woodstock and wore flowers in their hair, and then spent the next 40 years strip-mining the economy, teeing up the Great Recession.

Us Gen-Xers have been pissing into the wind forever. I can’t wait for the political implications. We are going to see a preview in the UKGE next month. Just as Brexit was a test drive for Dru*pf in 2016

All wealth has been greatly concentrated over the last thirty years. Seems like that might be a factor.

Yes, wondering what the picture looks like if you remove, say the top 10000 boomers from the picture. Ie everyone did ok in the late 80s and then a handful ran away?
