A hypothetical child that I hope to have with my husband is being compared to an accessory or a puppy on @MumsnetTowers. We’re hoping to be helped by an altruistic surrogate in the UK, I guess it’s a matter of fair comment to describe the UK as a ‘crisis torn country’ 🤷‍♀️pic.twitter.com/nbPyI9Be15

I appreciate that you removed the other thread because it was a "pile on". I would urge you to do the same with this. I'm not a Mum and I'm not a Mumsnet user so I'm not going to dive in and correct the lies that are being spread about me and my husband.

We've deleted the thread now and explained to users we think the surrogacy topic is best approached without reference to individuals.

I appreciate this but some form of “sorry” or an acknowledgement of the hurt caused to me and my husband would go a long way.

Btw this was just replaced with a topic about how awful surrogacy is in all circumstances. Is this the official view of @MumsnetTowers @Justine_Roberts ? https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4031454-In-GENERAL-terms-all-forms-of-surrogacy-altruistic-included-is-problematic …pic.twitter.com/bLQvK3Dg8e

Hi Ben, Mumsnet hosts thousands of conversations a day and is full of diverse opinions, many of which I don't share. But hearing other points of view is crucial I think to avoid echo chambers and the dangerous polarisation that results from them?

But isn’t the echo chamber all that thread is? Aside from the personal attacks on me and my husband (even his qualifications as a doctor), I only saw one view point being advocated. You’d need to be a brave user to have gone on there and advocated altruistic surrogacy.

I don't think it's an echo chamber, no. See attached posts from it which are all supportive of surrogacy. Plus we always remove personal attacks when they're reported as they breach our guidelines and has done in your case already as you know.pic.twitter.com/KNODnuV4BI

Well said Justine. Just who the hell does he think he is. Maybe he's not used to diversity of thought and looking at issues in detail with analysis and debate. Or maybe he just doesn't like women.
