I grew up in Australia and never once heard the term “peaceful transfer of power,” so I still find it odd to hear American boasts about achieving this every 4 years. In a mature democracy we take it for granted that the leader who wins the most votes takes over. It's that simple.

It’s real there too. Also ... They have a Parliamentarian Constitutional Monarchy which is pretty different and is only a little over 100 yo so ... the comment is just odd overall.

Especially with our tendency to unceremoniously depose prime ministers

Yes but also you don’t have a president, your leader has power just by dint of being able to command a majority in parliament

And western democracies with presidential governments do have all this talk about peaceful transfers of power after every election?

Contentious history. Complicated system. It endures. We praise its durability.

It's a parliamentary thing - power sits at all times with the parliament so there's not really a transition in the same sense as systems with strong executive presidencies

Power sits in the executive, which itself sits in parliament. MPs of the party in power are not all part of the government. The executive vests it's power in the PM. The power of the PM is comparable to an executive President. The only real difference is how they are elected.
