NEW: In a rare rebuke of Warren, @CherokeeNation says, "Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong." The tribe, whose chief is a Democrat, usually avoids the topic.https://newsok.com/article/5611759/cherokee-nation-slams-elizabeth-warrens-dna-test-as-inappropriate-and-wrong?no_cache=1&no_edit=1&show_all=1 …

Cherokee secretary of state on Warren's DNA test: "It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven."https://newsok.com/article/5611759/cherokee-nation-slams-elizabeth-warrens-dna-test-as-inappropriate-and-wrong?no_cache=1&no_edit=1&show_all=1 …

It's worth noting how unusual this is for the Cherokee Nation. While some Cherokees have criticized Warren, the tribe rarely comments on the controversy. Its chief is a Democrat and Oklahoma tribal members have criticized Trump for his "Pocahontas" slur.https://newsok.com/article/5573904/rep.-tom-cole-calls-trumps-pocahontas-remark-offensive-insensitive-and-unnecessary …

I did not wake up today expecting Trump supporters to find themselves in sudden agreement with the Cherokee Nation. But that's 2018 for you. The Cherokees have been so hesitant to wade into this debate, making this rebuke noteworthy for that reason alone.https://newsok.com/article/5611759/cherokee-nation-slams-elizabeth-warrens-dna-test-as-inappropriate-and-wrong …

Wait. They're angry that Elizabeth Warren, in order to silence Trump and other liars, willingly took a DNA test for proof, but NOT upset at Trump for deriding and marginalizing Native Americans, and calling her "Pocahontas"?? Warren NEVER claimed to be a tribal member.
-
I know no ones going to change your mind but the tribe was being nice. Most Cherokees hate her guts. I am registered voting citizen of the Cherokee nation, while I haven't spoken to all, I have yet to meet one who is on her side. And we call her Fauxcahontas.
-
Why would the Cherokee Nation "hate her guts"? She's literally been fighting for Native American rights and equality FOR YEARS. Seems odd.
-
The Cherokee people do.
-
Again, seems odd, since she's been a champion of Native American rights, as I said, for her whole professional life.
-
I am sure Rachel Dolezal is viewed as a champion for black rights in that community.

The Eastern Band Cherokee nation requires a direct ancestor that was counted in a census of some kind in 1924. Senator Warren may or may not have searched this out, but the statement here still doesnt disprove her claims.
-
She had a specific relative she claimed was Cherokee. The Cherokee Nation researched her ancestors back to 1835 before Removal. She had no ancestor on any of our rolls. She claimed a closer relationship than 6-10 generations shown in DNA. This disproved her claim, not support it.

I've been trying to explain how seriously the Tribes take their Heritage, especially here in Oklahoma. She knows how this works being from here but didn't care. I'm not NA but I understand why they take it seriously. Thanks for explaining this more directly.
-
Yes we do here in Oklahoma you’re right. I’m Cherokee and my family is on the rolls in Talequah. Had family killed due to being Native so it’s a slap in the face that she would try to further her career with false claims to Native American heritage.
-
Furthermore her great great grandpa put Cherokees on trail of tears furthering her insult to the Cherokees.
-
Oh that’s sickening and then she claims our heritage when hers pushed ours to our death

Her family told her that her ancestors are Cherokee. She acknowledged that DNA test shows only Native American lineage. She's not saying she is part of a tribe or trying to claim any benefits as such and never did. This is your big outrage? You are in good shape friends. Geez.
-
Her DNA test absolutely does not indicate Native American lineage. It indicates that she might possibly be 1/64 to 1/1024 Native American, which is actually the heritage of the average white person in the US. She's a total fraud:https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/11/elizabeth-warren-native-american-heritage-harvard-fraud/ …
-
Not true. In my rather large family, and my husband's large family, there is no native ancestry.
-
Mine either. You'd think the party with the most dishonest president in our nation's history wouldn't label someone a "total fraud" based on such a thin case. But it's all deflection and lying with them.
-
Oh, I'm one of those people who think that Sen. Warren and President Trump are both shameless liars. And, by the way, lots of Americans have some very distant Native American ancestry and are unaware of it. Average white American is .18% Native American -- same as Sen. Warren!
