Im a proud college grad. Grew up on government assistance in a working class fam and secured over 250k$ in scholarships. Dedicate yourself and it can be done! Celebrate proudly. It’s never done alone; thanks to everyone who encouraged me and helped me.

A brief thread where I try to say something brief about why I think meditation is relevant to current disputes in the philosophical literature on consciousness. Lots more to think about here, but I think it summarizes my views—which will certainly change and develop over time...

Would it be experimental philosophy if I got a bunch of illusionists about consciousness and took mushrooms or some other hallucinogenic with them?

Revenge is for communication: When people were able to explain *why* they punished a transgressor, they punished less severely.

In place of the view that we ought to minimise expected objective wrongdoing (MEOW), I propose that we ought to think of ought in terms of discounted objective grounds (DOG). Let this be the philosophical contribution I'm remembered for.

this ("there is no such thing as a general moral duty.") is a bold claim, but ok, we are not going to settle this here. Besides, my former comment wasn't suppose to be understood at the level of meta-ethics.

I really wish philosophers would stop making respectable the notion that you can write 'dispassionately' on anything. You can't. If you are, you're probably writing crap. If you insist you're writing dispassionately, you certainly aren't.
