If your YouTube video gets demonetized YouTube does not promote it in recommend. Meaning your YouTube video & channel can’t grow. It’s not just “money” it’s about making content that gets seen.https://twitter.com/KoolieisKool/status/1121816303231066112 …

Just wanted to clarify that our recommendations and search & discovery systems do not look at a video’s monetization status. So a yellow icon wouldn't limit a video in recommendations. More details about this here: https://yt.be/help/i2EY

So essentially, if your video gets demonetized, it's just a sign saying it will be most likely not be recommended. Correlation /= Causation

Correlation /= causation is a great way to think about it actually. If the video has mature content then it may not be widely recommended across all audiences. Separately, it may have a yellow icon for a similar reason. But demonetized videos can be widely recommended too!

Because if they recommend by, say, age groups, obviously mature content won’t be recommended to 13-17 year olds. (How well this works is a different story of course) So basically mature content = less recommending + demonetization. Demonetization /= less recommending.

Of course, I don’t believe this. YouTubers have proven with stats that it seems to be the other way around, but either way... mature content shouldn’t get demonetized in the first place. That’s just stupid.
