The future of Smash Bros. I think is such an interesting thing to think about. Where do they go after Ultimate? Obviously it's a huge money maker for Nintendo, so they're gonna wanna make more, but how do you even follow up something like Ultimate that has 70+ characters?
I think if they do make a new game, there's no way they include this many characters again. They need a fresh start. Personally I'd be fine with a roster of about 30, and I'd want most of them to be newcomers.

Difficult though. Is it Smash without the original 12? That's almost half the roster, and people would be upset no matter who gets booted. Kick Luigi cause he's too similar to Mario or Captain Falcon cause there's not been a FZero for years? People would riot

Oh for sure it is difficult. That's why Ultimate is such a double edged sword. It's 100% the game that they needed to make in the moment, but it also sets unreasonable expectations going forward for the series. I feel like their only path forward is making cuts somewhere.
