The future of Smash Bros. I think is such an interesting thing to think about. Where do they go after Ultimate? Obviously it's a huge money maker for Nintendo, so they're gonna wanna make more, but how do you even follow up something like Ultimate that has 70+ characters?

The biggest issue is that there aren't many primetime Nintendo characters left to add, imo. Mario - Captain Toad/Paper Mario/Birdo? LoZ - game-specific only Metroid - tapped Kirby - tapped AnCro - tapped DK - tapped Kid Icarus - tapped StarFox - tapped F-Zero - not priority

Pokemon and Fire Emblem have infinite possibilities, but in terms of characters that meet the all-star criteria, it's tough to think of more Nintendo characters that feel like really strong fits. Except getting the Ring Fit people in for Wii Fit. That's a no-brainer.

There's actually a Japan only GameCube game that came out late into the console's life cycle called Battle Stadium D.O.N. (Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto) that tried to emulate the success of Smash and blend it with some traditional fighting game tropes

Oh yeah I know all about that one. There’s also Jump Superstars and Jump Ultimate Stars for the DS, which were two of my favorite games on the system
