Serious Q: Obviously having too few characters in a fighting game is a problem, but is it also a problem to have too many? Getting good at a fighting game is almost as much about knowing what your opponents can do. Does it ever get overwhelming when you've got 40+ chars to learn?

Well if you're shooting for the more "traditional" Smash experience outside of tournament play, then yes, it can be overwhelming to learn each matchup, especially now with balance changes and just the overall insane nuance of nearly each fighter.

The opposite is true of games with few fighters. Once you learn the match ups the skill ceiling isn't very high. Smash with its insane roster and uniqueness provides that high skill ceiling. So I feel its roster is justified, even if I lose to silly stuff.
