its not, but Easy mode isn't just to decrease the challenge. could have been a good opportunity to advocate for accessibility options or difficulty sliders like so many games do these days.

I agree on the disparity part, but I don't think there can be 'too easy', as the lowest option. (if it's the only setting, then definitely). I like Doom Eternal's modular options, with the sentinal armor giving an extra edge if you want it.

Sure, I think the point of that article though was that the writer was having trouble beating a part and wanted to bump it down to easy to get through it, but doing so made combat disappointingly trivial. It wasn't that games shouldn't have that "too easy" option.

I don’t know if I agree with you or not but my problem is that I beat referenced game on easy last night and it wasn’t too easy for me. It was still challenging and had lengthy boss fights and I died once. This might be because I rushed it and didn’t level properly but still.

That's fair. To be honest, I haven't played FF7 on easy, so I'm kind of relying on Mike's word here. The point I'm making is that it is possible for an easy mode to be too easy if the disparity between easy and normal is too large.

It's not that people are eager to crap on them when they say stuff like this so much as, idk anyone who plays games on easy or story level difficulty settings, even kids, so I can understand why folks would look at a headline like that and write off any legitimacy it coulda had.

Well, difficulty is fairly subjective thing and vary from game to game but, more often than not, complaints from various game media are - "the game is too hard, needs to have an 'easy mode'!" and now - "it's too easy!", so I am not surprised at Kotaku being ridiculed... Again.

In that scenario, why are we saying that easy is too easy instead of saying normal is too hard? The issue isn't with easy mode its that the disparity is too great, meaning it needed more options. "Easy mode is too easy" misrepresents the problem and offends those who enjoy it.

Well, I dont think he did think that normal was too hard. He praised the normal difficulty in the article. He just toned it down for one fight near the end. I agree that the headline wasn't quite representative of his point. Kotaku's since changed it to better reflect.
