Just as a curiosity, Cor. As someone who went through the work of taking classes, has done unpaid walla in anime that has been featured on TV, has a professionally done commercial demo, but hasn’t booked a named character role, would it offend you for me to call myself a VA?

No, because you got screwed. You should have been paid for your work in walla. That is unfortunate that that happened to you and everyone should get paid for their work.

But with the classes and the demo then yeah you would not be a professional. Anyone can get themselves classes and a professionally done demo. Just like anyone can buy a plane and take flight lessons but that doesn't make them a pilot.

I got my first walla session not even a month or two after I started pursuing voice acting. So I guess I was a pro then? I think it’s very sad to hear that that is what is important, not the years of learning and money spent on classes and a demo to hone those skills

But I can tell you that if you don't respect this industry, you won't get anywhere either. There are some people who are WAYYY more successful than I am and they just started but I'm not going to tell them "you only had a few months of classes so you're not a professional!"

And remember I have been a professional actor for over 20 years. But those people still currently take classes to keep honing their skills even though they got their "big break" early. That's the only way to keep booking regularly. But their story is as valid as the person who
