1) I see. My understanding, from a medical & historical perspective, is that foreskin infections are most common in sexually active men that lack access to clean running H2O, soap, & knowledge of safe sex.

In order for male circumscion to be as potentially severe as FGM (bearring in mind FGM makes sex UN enjoyable and often painful and increases maternal mortality)- how much of the penis should be removed to be equivalent of stage 3FGM?

Lol, that was my original reason for joining this discussion. You'd have to amputate the entire glans (tip) of the penis & the frenulum. I don't know of any culture that does this, though.

Find me a single man who only orgasms from rubbing his glans penis alone. Your head-of-the-penis analogy is an anti-FGM/pro-MGM myth. It has no basis in anatomical or scientific fact. The glans penis is the least sensitive, taking 1.2 grams to react. https://twitter.com/VaetanThought/status/979169514305871873?s=19 …

If you don't believe that making an analogy between circumcision & FGM is helpful, then perhaps it's you that needs to stop comparing the two as if they were the same. FGM is demonstrably worse, & even you have admitted it.

I never said
#FGM is demonstrably worse than male#circumcision. Here we have reached the crux of our debate. You believe that ANY genital mutilation done to girls is at all times worse than ANY genital mutilation done to boys. Total castration is worse than infibulation.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Well no, not quite. My point is that outcomes for typical male circumcision are better than outcomes for typical FGM, overall.

Type 3 is always worse than male circumcision. Type 2 is almost always worse than male circumcision (degloved penises are the exception). Type 1 is equal to circumcision in severity. Both remove prepuce and most erogenous skin. (1/2)

If you want to lump all
#FGM types together into one monolithic group instead of treating each type differently, then why are you opposed to genital integrity activists lumping male#circumcision, penile subincisions, and#intersex assignment together with FGM? (2/2)1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

I feel like I've made my position on surgically altering any child's genitals pretty clear -- I don't support it. As a feminist, I advocate for women/girls to oppose FGM. As a medic, I promote evidence-based practice for all humans. Does that clear things up?
