I never use the word "woke" to describe myself because it isn't my word and I don't deserve to use it, but if bigots made uncomfortable by confessions of systemic racism use "woke" as a derisive term to define me it's a badge of honor. I seek and desire their enmity.

The only upside is that every time we do this, we invent a new ID flag for assholes. They THINK the pejorative “woke” or “SJW” or “virtue signalling” is edgy and clever, when in fact it’s the self-referencing arrow on a sign that says “I’m with stupid, also evil and dangerous.”
-
It’s not so much the other half as the INNER side to acknowledge that there are definitely hipsters out there hijacking the civil rights conversation (which IS the economic rights conversation) for an edge lord buzz.

I’ve mostly seen white people ‘denigrate’ other white people over ‘woke.’ Acknowledging white privilege is acknowledging privilege and a LOT people learned not to give up ANY social power before they learned hygiene.
-
This. I think it's wielded as an insult mostly against people they see as "race traitors".

Reminds me of how "fake news" was originally used to describe propaganda outlets like Fox until Trump started using it to degenerate any criticism.

That happened in like a week!

"Karen" was originally something to call attention to the way racist white women weaponize the police and their own tears to cause harm to Black folk. Now it's just another way to "put a woman in her place" and it has lost its impact, and I don't think that's a coincidence.
-
Exactly. When Black people mock “Karens” I may not like it (as a member of the demographic being mocked) but I understand there’s painful Black history behind it. When Bill Burr does it, he’s just having fun.(I know his wife is Black. Doesn’t change anything.)
