If you're keeping track, the "snowflakes" are the people who insist on equality under the law and in public life for marginalized people. The people who get upset when the president is cut from his cameo in a 30 year old movie shown on Canadian TV are tough-minded truth tellers.

Also "social justice warrior" is a bad thing to be. Also, "woke" is a bad thing to be. The opposites are apparently what we should be going for, in this tough-minded facts-only marketplace of ideas full of twerpy debate paladins so fragile they experience criticism as death.

What this "wokeness" is that they so object to is simply this: a growing cultural narrative, counter to the dominant cultural narrative, that says many different kinds of people exist, and, since they exist, they matter just as much as anybody else.

This narrative challenges dominant assumptions. The challenge takes the form of criticism. They are so unused to criticism, so entirely unable to handle it, that they experience it as an attack. Dominant assumptions have protected them. They've grown quite fragile as a result.

Isn't it interesting how apparently it's those challenging the dominant cultural narrative who are framed as the fragile ones? Isn't it interesting how it's those who've managed to recognize the equal humanity of different people who are framed as close-minded?

Just as an aside, the cut was made in 2014 to fit the film into a TV timeslot.

Has there been an uproar? I wasn't paying attention.

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted an article about this so I guess there is, but I'm not really paying attention either
