Lincoln wanted the slaves freed democrats fought him on it. Alot of the same in both presidents. Republicans are being taken more serious then democrats who have never changed.

FDR's administration also appointed a great number of blacks in key positions. While he had to deal with Southern Democrats blacks knew that FDR was on their side. And, of course, we have not even talked about Eleanor Roosevelt.
