Recently finished up my dissertation
@LSEGovernment. I found that the individuals whose jobs are most susceptible to automation are adopting particularly dim views of the world. I want to say to WSJ ed page, Fox News, talk radio: You own this. You instigated crazy conspiracy theories, stirred resentment, encouraged the mob. You all need to think about how to make amends.

Can the negative supply shock from this pandemic lead to a demand deficient recession? Yes. Together with the brilliant Veronica Guerrieri, Guido Lorenzoni and Ludwig Straub, I explore the conditions for this to happen in this new paper. https://economics.mit.edu/files/19351 (start thread)pic.twitter.com/RCdgP9zfmk

It would be easier for us to keep people afloat right now if we had an easy way to do this, as opposed to unemployment insurance. The closest thing we have to this is called Work Share, or STC. It needs to be more comprehensive.

It's a good idea! Keeping workers on is so much smoother & efficient than letting workers go & then having to advertise, interview, and hire when openings come up again. Simpler both for employers & workershttps://twitter.com/JulianDJacobs/status/1246063703260368898 …

Thanks for Q,
@julianDJacobs. The pandemic has resulted in booming business for certain industries and companies, including in grocery, pharmacy, big box retail & companies like Amazon. Thanks for organizing this conversation.
@MarthaHRoss, I'm wondering if you think an excess profit tax on companies like Amazon might be in order given that a small group of large corporations has seen a bump in traffic as brick and mortar stores shut down?#COVID19WorkersThanks.
