RECORD HIGH CO2 EMISSIONS TO INCREASE 2023

UNLIVABLE FUTURE AHEAD

Permafrost soils contain huge ice wedges - when these melt the land above just collapses releasing methane but also destroying the forest on top. This process is accelerating in the Arctic cycle. A double whammy.
GLOBAL CROP YIELDS IN DECLINE AT 1.5°C (IPCC) "Impact of climate change on crop yield generally negative even with CO2 fertiliz effect

−2.3% for maize, −3.3% for soybean, −0.7% for rice and −1.3% for wheat' (AR6 WG2 5-735)

"A recent investigation into the world’s largest carbon standard found that 94% of its rainforest offset credits did not actually contribute to carbon reduction." There is a great scam being played out here and they're risking the biosphere for profit.
“Women want to control whether & when to have children, & how many children to have." Yet funding for international family planning is not keeping up w/demand.
Good time to note that every $ invested in family planning saves $3 in pregnancy-related costs
I'd start with Cato Institute, aided and abetted by Trumpian media incl. Elon Musk. They're fighting culture-war battles on multiple fronts, based on human-supremacy, anti-logic, pandering-to-nostalgia films + memes. Self-serving crimes against humanity+ the planet if you ask me.
The return of very low quality climate denial (highlighting short-term trends, letting people know points in the past were hotter, etc) is all over my Twitter...it's so obviously coordinated just based on how repetitive and absurd it is.
As long as fossil fuel companies have more influence over government policy than the electorate - Earth will continue to be driven down this ecocidal path. System change is required.
Julian Cribb describes a new food system capable of meeting our global needs on this hot & overcrowded planet ... for anyone concerned about the
*health
*safety
*affordability
*diversity
*sustainability of their food - and the peace of our planet.
Are these

•Global Poisoning
•Weapons of mass destruction
•Resource scarcity
•Food insecurity
•Ecological breakdown and extinction
•Pandemic disease
•Overpopulation and overconsumption

Fixing climate alone will not save humanity. We need to fix all ten of the megathreats. Here's how https://cambridge.org/us/academic/subjects/earth-and-environmental-science/environmental-science/how-fix-broken-planet-advice-surviving-21st-century?format=PB…

"River Wye: Why the impending ‘death’ of one of the UK’s longest and best loved rivers should worry us all."
"The state of the River Wye fills me, and should fill everybody else in this country, with a righteous indignation and rage."
right now, Geraldine Doogue is talking to travel expert Tony Wheeler about travel this year as if the pandemic were over, both enthusiastically promoting it and never discussing the continuing risks posed by COVID. Please do better ABC
Ecologists and climate scientists look at climate change in very different ways. Climate scientists view emissions as the problem. Thus, renewables makes sense. Ecologists see climate change as a symptom of ecological overshoot. Thus, renewables will make overshoot worse.
We're in Canada's National Post:
The planet is in a state of ecological overshoot, said Bajaj. Climate change, biodiversity loss, growing scarcities of freshwater are all bigger problems than “the bizarre claim that we’re not producing enough babies”
BREAKING : scientists warn of an increasingly likely rapid mass extinction scenario for Earth's species as the rate of deforestation and degradation in the Amazon is shown to be much more rapid than previously thought 🧵
If a pandemic killed 15,000 people & nobody seemed to notice was it really a pandemic? In Australia last year COVID-19 killed more people than lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, car accidents & drowning combined…just sayin #auspol#covid19aus
You could see Covid-19 as an empathy test. Who was prepared to suffer disruption and inconvenience for the sake of others, and who was not?
My column on the massive, ongoing, yet denied and minimised impacts of the virus.
No rivers in England meet both Good Ecological Status & Good Chemical Status due to pollution from industry, sewage & agriculture. Where do river lead?
