How many more children have to die in a school shooting before Republican politicians get the guts to do something about assault weapons?

“The study, published by the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, found that “racial and cultural issues, rather than economic ones,” have driven the enormous gains Republicans have made with noncollege Whites.” Surprise!!

DeSantis is dropping as Trump attacks him directly and as the GOP base rallies around Trump ahead of a potential indictment. Seems his best tack remains to de-emphasize issue differences with Trump and distinguish himself instead as more electable—Trump without all the baggage.

Gov. Ron DeSantis tried to differentiate himself from former President Trump in a new interview. But recent polls suggest he has more work to do as he continues to lean into culture wars. @JulianCastro and @Timodc weigh in. More: on.msnbc.com/3lxSv7d

I’m grateful for the parents, including named plaintiff Demetrio Rodriguez and his family, who stepped up to challenge a blatant injustice against their children. Their courage, matched with the skill of dedicated attorneys, helped set TX and the country on a path for change.

Today marks 50 years since the Supreme Court (5-4) upheld egregious inequality between affluent and poor school districts in TX—terrible decision. and I attended two of those “property poor” districts, Edgewood and SAISD. Much progress since, still a lot to make.

In 1973, 50 years ago today, SCOTUS ruled in San Antonio Independent School District v. Rodriguez that it was legal to fund public schools by local property taxes. Funding disparities remain large today, creating an opportunity gap, in part due to this draconian ruling. A 🧵 1/

This is helpful. The number of people responding to Trump’s call to protest his possible indictment is very small so far. I sure hope media outlets will note just how tiny these protests have been, and give their viewers/readers a sense of scope and context.

I’m at the pro-Trump protest put on by the NY Young Republicans Club. Not a joke, there are more reporters here than Trump supporters. This was supposed to be the big one.

I guess Republicans like and will only be satisfied when Hispanics make up even closer to zero percent of professors at UT and A&M. Good going guys.
Quote Tweet
More than 40% of our population in Texas is Hispanic. Want to take a guess at what percentage of professors at UT and A&M are Hispanic? 10% at UT 5% at A&M At the risk of connecting really obvious dots, want to guess why colleges have tried to use DEI to find more diversity?

Family detention is a terrible idea. It won’t stop desperate people from seeking asylum but it will prolong their suffering and diminish us in the process. This & transit ban are cruel and get us no closer to resolving very real challenges. We are capable of much better.

If you spoke out against family detention/separation under Trump, you should speak out now too. Family detention isn’t about managing the border. It’s used for deterrence—the cruelty is the point. It’s ineffective and plays politics with desperate families. Let’s do better.

Listen to make the case for why Texas is the greatest state in America. This is an easy argument. For the harder ones, check out his new book.

At a book signing for #WinEveryArgument in Houston on Saturday, I was challenged, on the spot, to 'make the argument' for Texas being the greatest state in America in 60 seconds - against a Texas resident making the *opposite* case. Watch what happened 😉

Family detention was wrong under Trump and it would be wrong under Biden. We simply cannot go backward.
