I'm back on the Indie Hackers podcast! I share what you should know about growth in 2019. This is my consolidation of advice from working with over 25 startups last year. Midway through, I get into the advanced stuff. It's worth listening till the end.

  2. So, this is pretty cooool. This week, I'm interviewing the founder of Segment and the growth team at Webflow to learn how they grew so big so fast. It's a free masterclass you can attend online live:

Psychological tricks and productivity hacks are probably not the best way to fight procrastination. To fight procrastination, find something to love about the work you're procrastinating on. Make it no longer feel like a chore. If that's not possible, do it a different way.

Watch me tear apart a follower's company homepage at super speed. Tell me if this is useful and I'll critique more pages.

If you're willing to have me live critique your startup's landing page, respond with your URL. No guarantee I'll get to it. Thanks!

My next blog post is called "Vanity Metrics." It's about how we all optimize for the wrong things... constantly. Any interesting examples come to mind that I should write about?

Kobe’s death hits hard because he was the personification of sustained greatness in his field. There are few people like him in *any* field. As a result, he is responsible for uniquely inspiring many. He makes the impossible possible. I feel for those who lost their hero today.

Here's how I use Twitter. You should probably do the same✌️

Tip: You can decrease churn by managing expectations. AdBadger reduced churn by 30%: • They show a message when people sign up saying the app isn't done. More features are coming. • This reduced # of signups but increased # of engaged users. People respond to authenticity.

This will sound too good to be true, but this is real: My company partnered with to give you guys $1,000,000 off all the major marketing tools for your company. Plus get $50,000 off of Segment: There's no catch.

This is why when I do advisory calls, I can convince someone of doing something much more effectively than if they read a blog post I wrote on the same topic. On the call, I can be more persuasive and more human. I can package it in a way that resonates.

The reason we endlessly seek career and life advice from Twitter and books is not because we‘re seeking *new* advice. We’ve heard most of it. We seek advice because we’re lazily waiting for someone to *package* advice in an effective way that gets us to finally take action.

Alex Trebek is dying. Instead of retiring and wallowing in existential dread, he's hosting Jeopardy until he physically can't. His new shows still have his trademark wit and joy. He doesn't want your pity. He wants to live in the moment and provide joy. Inspirational.

An artist with *one* great work likely doesn’t know *why* it’s good. In that case, I appreciate the work itself. But an artist with a streak of masterpieces (Christopher Nolan) is indeed a master. In that case, I appreciate the person. I try to reverse engineer their process.

"Attacking a problem that is twice as big or ten times as big is not actually twice or ten times as hard." — Richard DeVaul By definition, I think that's the highest-leverage career advice you'll ever hear.

I want to know what creative side project you’re working on. I’ll go first: I’ve spent 1000 hours on a guide to telling fascinating stories, be it movies, novels, or comic books. What are you working on on the side?

Pause. Go through your calendar for the next 30 days. Cancel every optional event that you aren’t "Hell yeah!" excited about. Like Derek Sivers says, if it’s not a "Hell yeah!", it should be a no. Be mindful about your time. Don't let others needlessly take it from you.

  19. I'm glad that a new generation is growing up comfortable with contributing/tipping their favorite online creators. It’s critical that creators get paid. They're the future of good content. My generation is mentally warped from piracy and expecting everything online to be free.

  20. For everyone looking to start blogging regularly: What's bothering you most in life right now? Write a post where you work through it — and get to a conclusion. This is how I start every time. Writing is therapy... that you then publish for the world to learn from.

  21. There's this dumb debate on Twitter: "Is overworking yourself in your 20's (nights, weekends) necessary for a successful career?" It misses the point: Your job is to get good at DELEGATION so you can work normal hours AND get way more done than the average person. Delegation.
