    Julia Hartley-Brewer Retweeted David Lammy

There is absolutely nothing in @DavidLammy’s tweet which even attempts to answer, confront or refute any of the factual points in @toadmeister’s tweet or blog. It’s just ad hominem trolling. Shouting “RACISM” at everything doesn’t actually solve anything, David.https://twitter.com/davidlammy/status/999349306460123143 …

Toby tell us again about that time you got into Oxford because your Dad (a Baron) rang up the College to ask them to let you in because you didn't get the grades? And then come back to talk to me about institutional bias and why white students twice as likely to get in as black. https://twitter.com/toadmeister/status/999256518850641920 …

It’s also balls to say white applicants twice as likely to get in as black. If you control for grades and popularity of subjects applied for, acceptance rates for black applicants in 2017 was above Oxford average. See my latest thread for chapter and verse.

The big problem with you two (@JuliaHB1 and @toadmeister) is you keep bringing bloody facts and evidence to the table - it's just no good you know.

He highlights the fact that the places are taken up by ~those~ who are privileged enough to worm their way in without the grades.

His version of events isn’t very close to the truth. And that’s just one place. How does that explain how everyone else - including me - got our places?

It is a very poignant example though. We cannot argue that those who earned the grades didn’t deserve to be there. But those who didn’t - different story.

Not to mention the other big part of this story, which is @BBCNews convincing much of the population that Oxford University is letting down BME students. They ran with the story seemingly without the investigative journalism part. Is this how "Fake News" works?

Doesn't matter, such are the doctrines of political correctness, if A accuses B of racism then B has to prove innocence and remains racist until he does. This is what Lammy hangs his hat on every time. Sadly, Windrush has simply emboldened him.
